But, as the pair acknowledge in the book’s preamble, García Márquez didn’t want the work to be released. The Colombian author’s memory loss undermined his confidence in his work, his sons said. In that time, serious threats against federal judges alone have more than doubled, from 220 in 2020 to 457 in 2023, as Reuters reported on Feb. 13. Over the last four years, the Marshals investigated more than 1,200 threats against federal judges that they considered serious, according to the data provided to Reuters. Following Musk’s recent critical posts about DEI policies and racial discrimination lawsuits against Tesla, the electric car company has omitted all language regarding minority workers and outreach to minority communities in its 10-K filing with the SEC made January 29. Last year, banks opened 2023 by forecasting layoffs, including for the investment bankers who suddenly had nothing to do following the pandemic-era M&A and IPO boom. Citigroup kicked off 2024 ominously, warning that it will lay off as many as 20,000 employees by 2026. The bank expects 2024 expenses to increase further to total $90 billion, up $2.8 billion from 2023, and much of that will be focused on hiring. CFO Barnum on Friday said the bank is gearing up for a "rebound in the investment banking wallet." Headcount declined 3% to 80,006 from 82,427, while compensation expenses rose to $24.5 billion from $23 billion.

In a Twitter Spaces event earlier in the year he said that rather than explicitly programming morality into its AI, xAI will seek to create a "maximally curious" AI. The billionaire, who has criticized Big Tech's AI efforts as ridden with censorship, in July launched xAI, calling it a "maximum truth-seeking AI" to rival Google's (GOOGL.O) Bard and Microsoft's Bing AI.
